David Parrott
Memorial Scholarship

The Story Behind the Scholarship

David Parrott was diagnosed with leukemia in the spring of 1982. During his brief illness, he participated in a golf camp at Duke University and competed in the South Carolina Junior Championship, finishing third in his flight. At the championship, Parrott received the Derek Davis Sportsmanship Award for his effort, determination, and the inspiration he provided to those around him.

Parrott passed away on July 29, 1982, at the age of 16. In 1986, the Carolinas Golf Association established the David Parrott Award in his memory to honor junior golfers who demonstrate excellence in sportsmanship, ability, academic achievement, and commitment to the game of golf.

His legacy continues today through both the award and the David Parrott Memorial Scholarship.
