About the CGA

The Game Has Been Our Story

The Carolinas Golf Association is a not-for-profit organization and the USGA® Allied Golf Association for North and South Carolina. We keep your Handicap Index®, run 48 championships a year, rate the courses you play, and support the clubs that make organized golf possible across the Carolinas. We've served the game since 1909 and have administered handicaps since 1963. That's long enough to know the game works best when every golfer has a fair place in it.

Helping More People Find Their Place in Golf

Our purpose is simple: help golf thrive across the Carolinas. That means making handicaps easier to understand, creating meaningful ways to compete, supporting clubs and courses, and growing the game for future generations. It's the idea behind everything we do: where every golfer counts.

Meet the People Behind the CGA

The CGA is more than programs, tournaments, and services. We’re guided by an Executive Committee of Carolinas golfers who volunteer their time to serve the game. Our staff in Southern Pines handles the day-to-day work. They're the people behind your handicap, your next tournament, and the programs that bring new golfers into the game.

More than a Century of Carolinas Golf

The CGA was founded in 1909 to promote and protect golf in the Carolinas. Since then, we've held championships at many of the region's best-known courses, and generations of players have made their names there. Visit our Hall of Fame to discover the people whose contributions helped shape the game we know today.
